2. Black and White Marble Notebook 7. Student Agenda
3. Post-it Notes
4. Pocket Folder for all handouts
5. Portable jump drive for use in Computer Lab

Grading: Everything we do counts!
Grades will be based upon completing the following:
Tests Journal Writing
Quizzes Project Work
Homework Class Participation
Writing Assignments/Essays
NOTE: In accordance with the District-wide required Grammar Initiative, all written assignments will have a grammar and mechanics grading component.

Cell Phones & MP3 Player Use:
Cell phones & MP3 Players are strictly prohibited. If a cell phone or MP3 Player is seen or heard in class, it will be brought to the appropriate unit office and disciplinary action will follow.

Extra Help: We are available for extra help upon student request.
Technology: The class will integrate the use of technology throughout the year.
 Students are responsible for creating an email account for this class utilizing www.gmail.com and should have a portable jump drive or a Google docs account to save all work done in the computer labs.
 Students will be responsible for uploading essays to www.turnitin.com in order to receive credit for the assignment. Students will be given instructions to sign up for this site.

Attendance & Late Work: Students will:
 bring a note signed by their parent/guardian for all excused absences.
 receive an incomplete for the course if they have more than 5 legal absences per quarter (not including field trips, music lessons, school business, etc.)
In addition, an incomplete assignment must be completed in order to receive credit
for the quarter.
 receive a zero for all assignments missed due to illegal absences
 be subject to teacher detention due to frequent unexcused lateness to class
 have ( 3 ) days to make up any homework, quiz or test.

Submitting Major Assignments:
 All work must be submitted on time.
 Late essays, projects and other assignments will lose one full letter grade for every day they are late.
 If you are absent from class due to an in-school function on the day an assignment is due, you must make arrangements to get the assignment to us that day.

Homework: Homework is an essential part of the course. It is a valuable tool
to reinforce skills learned in class and increases student responsibility.
 Posted weekly on the whiteboard or in a unit calendar hand-out
 Checked or collected for closer inspection
 No late homework accepted (except legal absence with parent note)

Plagiarism:
When a student plagiarizes any part of a class assignment, that student will receive a zero on the assignment and parental contact will be made. A second incident of plagiarism will result in failure for the marking period. Continued plagiarism will carry consequences as severe as course failure.
